British Comparative Literature Association & Goldsmiths College

A workshop conference - 8-10 September 2003 (New extended dates!)

Call for Papers

The conference, hosted by the British Comparative Literature Association and the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Goldsmiths College, University of London, will address the intersections between fictional and autobiographical writing.

Speakers include:

  • Laura Marcus (Sussex)
  • Maurice Slawinski (Lancaster)
  • Peter Davies (Edinburgh)
  • Ann Jefferson (Oxford)
  • Ivan Callus (Malta)
  • Lucia Boldrini (Goldsmiths)

Proposals are invited for thirty-minute papers (including discussion), with a comparative or interdisciplinary approach. Issues that may be addressed include:

  • The fictionalisation of autobiography
  • The writing of someone else's autobiography
  • Liminal autobiography
  • The autobiographical form in historical fiction
  • The exploration of subjectivity and/or self-representation at the crossroads of autobiography and fiction
  • The political uses of autobiography and autobiographical fictions

Any combination of auto, bio, graphy and fiction will be welcome.

The deadline for receipt of paper proposals is 30 May 2003.
