The Cut and The Critics: Ravenhill's Ethical Politics
Keynote presentation by Dan Rebellato (Professor of Contemporary Theatre, Royal Holloway College)

Ravenhill and Out of Joint
Chair: Maria Shevtsova (Professor of Drama, Goldsmiths)
Max Stafford-Clark will talk about his working process on Shopping and Fucking  (1996) and Some Explicit Polaroids (1999), and the reception of his productions of these plays in the UK and overseas.

Followed by a short paper by Andrew Tidmarsh (Director), Reading Ravenhill, Reading Chekhov, and a panel discussion and open forum considering the early impact made by Ravenhill’s work.

A case study of the work of Rude Guerilla Theater Company, who have staged five of Mark Ravenhill’s plays to date, by their Artistic Director, Dave Barton.

Script Development and Collaborations with LAMDA
Chair: John Ginman (Goldsmiths)
Peter James (Principal of LAMDA and director of student productions there of the first version of Mother Clap’s Molly House, and the verbatim play North Greenwich (for the Dome) will talk about the development of both projects.

North Greenwich (for the Dome)
Mark Ravenhill’s hitherto unpublished verbatim play, given a complete rehearsed reading  by current acting students fro Drama Centre, directed by Andrew Tidmarsh.

This rehearsed reading will include an interval at about 4.30pm, and the performance will finish by 6pm at the latest.

 
Sunday 12 November

Creative collaboration 1: Frantic Assembly
Chair: David Lane (Freelance dramaturg)
Directors Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett (Frantic Assembly) and writer Mark Ravenhill will discuss the development process of pool (no water) (2006), currently being presented at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, and answer questions from the audience. The session will include some video footage of rehearsals.

Creative collaboration 2: NT Connections
Chair: Caoimhe McAvinchey
Suzi Graham-Adriani  and other members of the NT Connections team will discuss the development and production of Totally Over You (2003) and Citizenship (2005), and former teacher Margaret Tully will talk about her experience of directing Citizenship in a UK school. The presentation will include video extracts from student/youth productions of these plays, and discussion of the part they are playing in the international aspects of NT Connections current work overseas, in Brazil, Italy, Portugal and elsewhere.

Interview with Jens Hillje, Joint Artistic Director of  the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Berlin, discussing Thomas Ostermeier’s 1999 production of Shopping and Fucking, and the wider impact made by Ravenhill’s work in German-speaking countries.

Presentation by John Deeney (Senior Lecturer in Drama at mmu cheshire, and author of a forthcoming full-length study of Mark Ravenhill’s plays to be published by Routledge).

Interview and open forum with Mark Ravenhill
Chair:  Robert Gordon (Professor of Drama, Goldsmiths)
Mark Ravenhill  will discuss his recent work, including the development to date of the Barbican pantomime Dick Whittington and his Cat, which is currently in rehearsal.

He will then answer questions from the floor regarding any aspect of his work.
