Developing web pages for publishing on Goldsmiths' website

All existing web pages are currently being rebranded bit by bit into new templates. (See further information on Phases 1 and 2 of the branding plan). All new Goldsmiths pages therefore must either use these templates or be approved by the Head of Web Services (see point 2 below).
Web Services are creating all the new templates. The new templates use XHTML and PHP. Departmental Web Editors may be given approval to update their own templates once Web Services have created the initial set of new templates for that department.*
( * A Content Management System will be available in 2008 that will allow any member of staff relevant access to update their department's web pages without having to send requests to the Web Team).

1. Developing existing web pages

If you want to develop existing pages on www.gold.ac.uk or www.goldsmiths.ac.uk this can be simply done by sending us your web requests via our online form or by emailing your requirements to webwork@gold.ac.uk.
You can send your requests in the body of an email, in a word document or, if you wish, you can send an example web page of what you're hoping to achieve. Whichever is easiest for you.

Sending large attachments? It's easiest to zip these before sending them across. Alternatively, you can put your files in a folder on our k:drive (K:\webteam\InBox).

2. Creating a new Goldsmiths site

Before you begin, contact us. Any new Goldsmiths website must have approval from the Head of Web Services in order to meet Goldsmiths IT policy, Web Policy, Communications & Publicity policy and the Brand guidelines [PDF files]. We also want to ensure that your project meets accessibility guidlines, best practice guidleines and does not duplicate or conflict with any planned or existing online sites or facilities.

3. Creating a personal website

Staff or students can have access to web space on the dedicated 'Homepages' server for the creation of personal web projects. See further information 'Homepages' on the IT Services website.
