About Xenos: theory and research about contemporary geosocial and geopolitical conflicts
Xenos is a research group in the
Department of Sociology, Goldsmiths
The main aim of Xenos is to develop in a multidisciplinary way new approaches to thinking about and researching the geosocial and geopolitical conflicts we see today. Xenos aims to critically interrogate the disciplinary boundaries that usually govern discussions on religion and nationalism, racism and ethnicity and other related areas. Xenos will work across the disciplines of sociology, philosophy, history, political theory and the study of political cultures without restricting itself to any particular fashion or theoretical approach. It will draw on areas ranging from international relations, globalisation and geopolitical sociology, to the sociology of nationalism racism, ethnicity and religion. Xenos is committed to empirical investigation of local groups and transnational networks, as well as the development of novel philosophical and theoretical approaches. Xenos aims to engage with often neglected debates and theoretical and empirical vantage points arising from outside Europe and America.
